"America's Best Young Teachers"
-Golf Digest
Lesson Notes
September 19, 2010
Full-Swing
-improve setup position by getting left arm higher than right arm at address (shoulders should be pointing parallel to target line, as opposed to open).
-this will eliminate a lot of the "outside" takeaway that we discussed and help to get the club more on-plane on the backswing
Short-Game
-create more distance from golf ball at address (stand further away/knees flexed)
-ball centered in stance for most shots
-control trajectory by not getting the club too steep going back
October, 2010
Posture
-Shoulder/forearms square at address (not open)
Backswing
-Feel right elbow closer and more connected to body on takeaway in order to get club more on plane (use glove under right armpit as drill). Use stick in ground behind as checkpoint for correct swing plane
Putting
-Feel everything going back together (grip end and head end) but ok to feel more of a "release" on follow-thru
November, 2010
Full-Swing
-More connection with right arm on backswing (should swing back closer to body...no daylight). Shaft in line with right forearm on takeaway
-Taller with left side of body on backswing
-Practice with mid-short irons, abbreviated swings to top
Putting
-Focus on alignment at address (tendency is to aim too far right of hole)
Short-Game
-Maintain angle thru impact
November, 2010 Continued...
Full Swing
- Squat at address (feel tension in the quads)
- Rotate left forearm a little in the middle of backswing to make sure clubhead is not inside the hands at the top
- Swing left in follow through
- Shorter at the top
- Driver: right hand release for higher trajectory
Short Game
- Open club to use bounce
-
Turn core through impact
December, 2010
Address
-Hands higher (butt of club in line with belt line)
-Upper body square
Backswing
-Right elbow close to body on backswing
-Club shorter at top (feeling club pointing slightly left of target at top
Putting
-Look at brim for square alignment at address
February, 2011
Posture at address
-Slightly more flex in knees
-Less upper body tilt (soine straighter)
-Hands slightly higher
**Each of these 3 areas will help the other
March, 2011
Putting
-Feeling a bit more rotation on the backstroke so the putterface does not swing back closed
-Set up with white line on putter square to middle of ball at address (draw lines on balls to practice lining up)
Full-Swing
-Posture has improved
-Takeaway with arms more in front of body (not as deep)
-Arms higher at top so left arm is in line with shoulders and club is on plane (feeling of clubhead pointing slightly left of target line at top of backswing)
April, 2011
Full-Swing
-Same posture/takeaway thoughts
-In order to get arms higher and less flat at top of swing, think left shoulder "down." This improves body angles and will automatically get arms into a better position
Short-Game
-Around the green (inside 30yds), feel shorter backswing with more angle coming thru.
-Think less speed, more touch
-Think more about options before choosing which wedge to play. Sometimes percentages are more in your favor to fly ball closer to hole and carry trouble.
