May, 2010
The main faults that we focused on were that your hands/arms were lifting and swinging back too steeply, causing a lack of shoulder turn and windup going back. The goal in the beginning is to eliminate the weak fade and work on getting the ball to draw.
-Set up with a slightly closed stance at address (right foot back)
-Swing arms/club on more rounded, flatter plane (baseball swing), which will help pull left shoulder and left side more behind ball on the backswing
-Lower body quiet/less hip turn to keep head from moving laterally.
-Narrow stance drill will help achieve what we are trying to do.
May, 2010
Driver swings
-Upper body tilted to the right at address
-Feel as if you are aimed right with alignment (your tendency is to aim too far left)
-Ball a little less forward in stance at address
Putting
-Elbows connected and closer to body at address and throughout stroke
-Hands forward (not behind ball)
Short-Game
-In bunker, open stance and open clubface, but make "normal" swing (do not try to cut across ball)
-Accelerate and make full follow-thru
-On chips, keep weight forward and use toe of club. Shots to the right are caused by heel shots
May, 2010 Cont...
-Worked on feeling "reverse pivot" on the backswing (which is only a feeling) to help you not move body so far to right. Should feel like head is in front of ball on the backswing.
-Entire upper body has to feel looser throughout the swing to help complete turn.
-With the driver, swinging more "in-to-out" and hitting the ball more from the inside is important and will help to improve your launch angle/trajectory, which is critical.
June, 2010---
-Narrow stance at address (with all clubs)
-Overall loser with less tension, especially on golf course
-Continue to feel head in front of ball on backswing
July, 2010---
-Weight slightly more in front of ball at address (for all clubs other than driver)
-Keep weight forward all the way to top of backswing
-Get through ball after impact with weight onto left leg...less hang-back. Keep in mind feeling of hitting shots off downhill lie.
-Continue to refer to June lesson notes
August, 2010---
Putting
-Feel more of an iside takeaway on your backstroke (your tendency is to take the putter too far to the outside going back)
Chips/Pitches
-Control distance by changing length of backswing
-From fairway lies use pitching wedge, ball back in stance, and hit down on ball with less hinge
Full-Swing
-Narrow stance
-Weight forward at address
-Head in front of ball on backswing (keep in front of ball the whole time)
-More hip turn going back (think "hip back" and "head forward" |
